On his first day on the job, new police chief Adul Saengsingkaew said he will closely supervise narcotics suppression and security issues in the deep South.
After convening his deputies and assistants, Pol Gen Adul announced he would personally implement policies on narcotic suppression and solutions to the southern insurgency, as both issues were among important areas of work emphasised by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and himself.
Other priorities are the protection and promotion of the royal institution and improvement of services at police stations, he said.
The improvement of police stations will help prepare Thailand for the formation of the Asean Economic Community in 2015, he added.
He yesterday assigned deputy police chiefs Pol Gen Parnsiri Praphawat, Pol Gen Ake Angsananant and Pol Gen Somyos Poompanmuang to supervise crime suppression.
Deputy police chiefs Pol Gen Watcharapong Prasarnratchakit, Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen and Pol Gen Worapong Chewpreecha were told to oversee security, foreign and education affairs.
Pol Gen Worapong was also asked to find solutions to the unrest in the southernmost provinces, while Pol Gen Pongsapat will supervise traffic solutions.
Pol Gen Adul plans to ask his predecessor Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong to serve as his adviser on narcotics suppression.
Before assuming his new post, Pol Gen Adul was secretary-general of the Narcotics Control Board. Yesterday he officially handed the position over to deputy police chief Pol Gen Pongsapat who takes a concurrent post at the anti-drug organisation.
Pol Gen Pongsapat yesterday announced a series of 90-day campaigns to tackle the proliferation of narcotics in 12 drug-prone communities in Bangkok and nine other provinces.
He referred specifically to Klong Toey, Fuen Nakhon Rom Klao and Ban Somdet in Bangkok and Phai Khiew in Bang Pa-in district of Ayutthaya province.
