According to this STOMPer, these changes were implemented without her knowledge and approval.
She says:
“When I came back to work on the 28th of January 2009 from my maternity leave of 112 days, I discovered that my job had been given to a foreigner. I was told by this foreigner that I can’t have my job back, which I had handed over to him before going on leave.
“The sad part is that I joined the company in 2006 and this foreigner, who is an employment pass holder, joined a year after me. He was inexperienced when he joined and I had to teach him a lot of things. There was also some favouritism involved as I heard rumours that his uncle was related to our boss.
“Coming back to my issue, after waiting for 5 days upon returning from my maternity leave, my boss spoke to me very unhappily and reluctantly. He said that he had decided that all the effort that I had put into my job previously didn’t matter and that he didn't want me to ask anymore questions on why he was giving my job to the foreigner. He also told me to be thankful that he was not firing me!
“This is my first pregnancy and I feel very discouraged to even think about a second one. Yet, the government is encouraging Singaporeans to deliver more.
“I have been transferred to another department and that is only because someone else from that department left. So if the person did not leave, does that mean that I would have been jobless by now? I can’t believe that this is happening in Singapore."
