Many rental vehicle, bus, delivery, taxi and private hire vehicle drivers have expressed frustration with having to retrieve electronic road pricing (ERP) cards that are hidden from sight inside the vehicles. As the ERP gantries are passed, the cards can easily be forgotten if not visible to the driver.
This has led to disagreements between parties when cards are left inside after use of shared vehicles. Drivers have argued it would be better if the ERP cards were placed in a more prominent location for easy retrieval, to avoid potential fines and disputes.
As transport services play a key role in our city, making the ERP system design more user-friendly could help reduce unnecessary challenges faced by drivers. Placing cards in plain view may help drivers remember to take their cards and face less issues with forgetting them inside vehicles after trips pass through the gantries. This small change could benefit driver workflows and improve relations between parties.
