If Tan Kian Lian really want to serve the people and stand for office, there is no need for this sort of stunts.

The more he try to show PAP he has support, the harder he will be crushed. Remember what happen to Andrew Kwan? A worse fate awaits Tan Kian Lian.

Why sign petition?
When you sign the petition you are asking Tan Kin Lian to stand for election for public office, either as the Elected President or Member of Parliament.

You are not saying you will vote for Tan Kin Lian. You are simply asking him to go for a contest.

Why would you want to do that?

Perhaps you think that Tan Kin Lian is willing to stand up to speak for the people. Perhaps because you feel that you want to be more active as a citizen of Singapore. Perhaps you are senstive to some of the issues that we have highlighted, and hope to see some things being changed. Perhaps you want to contribute to nation building.

We are sure you will have a reason. We believe that when you sign the petition, you have become more pro-active. You have gone beyond just talk to take definite action.

Funny, I felt like a 3 years old when I was reading this. :D

835 people have signed the petition so far, still a long way from the target. You should consider lowering it to 10,000. 100,000 is impossible.

I'm confident that if he decides to stand for election, many people will support him. I'll probably be one of them.
But if he says that he will only step forward if people sign a petition to pre-approve him, some people will be put off.

you felt stupid reading it?? :o

A sex-hungry lau char bor strips naked and gives you a condom.

Then she says
"Don't worry, just put it on, because it does not mean that you want a f88K."

They should get one who knows how to write a more inspiring post so as to persuade people to sign up. Poetry in terms of the type of words used, and the overall construction are also very important.

That one, however, needs more work. They have to read up more, really, and find source material in which can help them make better stuff.

Hmm....how do we know for sure you are Tan Kin Lian's volunteers and not part of the PAP/WP internet brigade to fish for info ?

I suggest you reveal your real identity to dispel our doubts.

i m one of those who was put off.

To stand for public office is itself a noble cause, that is if you still believe in the romantics of serving the people blah blah blah.

but to want a petition of a certain number of people then you are willing to serve? what sort of messege was Tan Kian Lian trying to tell? and who was he directing that messege to?

Was tan Kian Lian sincere of serving or was he just testing water? Such actions and stunts showed me his lack of sincerity and if testong water dont work, hence he would not serve whatsoever. Is that the way to win support? wanting others to "beg" him to serve then he would?

As Tan Kian Lian was an ex-PAP senior member, that added in the fact of whether he is really sincere or not, or worse, just using the public was pawn for his political ambition?

There is one famous saying by Deng Xiao Ping, "When one is hungry, he need to eat rice, not recite poetry. Perhaps, TKL is using this petition as a tool to gauge the general sentiment of the people's desire for a change in political climate. If the thirst is not strong, the call for a challenge will be a weak one.

I believe that TKL had clarified on more than one occasion that the purpose of the petition is for him to convince more qualified people to come forward to stand in election to put forth a real challenge. One person cannot possibly effect any real change.

Hi everyone,

Speaking in my personal capacity as a volunteer, I believe one of the aims of the petition is to get more Singaporeans aware that they now have a choice for a potential candidate for public office. Rarely do we get someone of Mr Tan's background who would be willing to come out of retirement to stand for public office. However, since he has decided to do this, we as volunteers believe he deserves whatever help we can give him.

It is a fact many here are politically apathethic and would rather go about their daily lives without bothering about what the government does. We all know that to enter politics in Singapore and put yourself up against the PAP is like stepping into a minefield. We as volunteers defintely do not want to see another JBJ and that is why we do not blame Mr Tan for asking 100k of signatures.

Many of the volunteers are also aware that the current political figures (PAP or otherwise) in this country may not be that perfect after all. From what we have seen recently, many issues affecting the people have not been raised or answered clearly in Parliament. If we as volunteers can help to get the signatures, Mr Tan would have to stand and we would have in our own small way contributed towards making a difference in our political scene.

Finally I do not think Mr Tan has said he would not stand if he didn't get the 100k signatures. But we as volunteers would not blame him either if he did so and we as volunteers can say that at least we did try to do something to effect change. We would at least have moved one small step forward if the political mindset of Singaporeans can be awakened through this petition.
