'Never sleep with a Chinese virgin' article sparks heated debate

An article urging foreign expats in China to never sleep with a local woman who is a virgin has sparked a predictably polarized response among the country's internet users, reports our Chinese-language sister paper Want Daily.
Amulet Mok, who penned the article Never Sleep with a Virgin, published in the English version of the nationalistic tabloid Global Times on Sunday, says foreigners should avoid deflowering a Chinese woman at all costs because it is "more of a headache than anything."
While most Chinese men get an ego boost from being the first man a woman has slept with, Mok writes that plenty of women are surprised to discover that "virginity freaks out many foreigners."
According to Mok, the average age of first sexual intercourse in China is 21.9, meaning foreign men are likely to be disturbed if confronted by a 30-year-old woman who is virgin because they will think there is something wrong with her.
Mok describes an incident involving a foreign friend, who was stalked by a woman in her late 20s after he became her first sexual partner. "Sometimes a devirginized woman could be as toxic as the smog in Beijing," she writes.
She concluded that it is best to resolve never to sleep with a virgin, but recommended that those who disregard this advice must be sure to use a condom. "Condoms are just like women, they can be very annoying sometimes, but you can't have sex without them," she says.
The English-language article — which was both unusually racy and humorous for an official publication — has sparked debate online, with some calling it typical "Western garbage" and "shameless." Those who approved of the article said Chinese women should not feel emotionally tied down by virginity and should not be pressured into giving it away to anyone just for the sake of it.
On the other hand, some netizens said it was to be expected that many expat men sleep with Chinese virgins despite knowing the potential baggage that comes with it. "Foreign men don't get many opportunities to sleep with virgin girls because most foreign girls would have lost their virginity in elementary school!" one netizen scoffed.
