My son is precious!
Not even RM100mil
can match his worth.
No amount of money!

This was the outburst from Tunku Dara Naquiah Tuanku Jaafar to reports on the Internet and the international media that the Negri Sembilan royalty had demanded RM50mil from the Johor royalty as compensation over an assault incident involving two princes from their respective royal houses.

Her son, Tunku Nadzimuddin Tunku Mudzaffar , 37, was allegedly battered by the Raja Muda of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris Abdul Majid Abu Bakar Iskandar Tunku Ibrahim, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel here on Oct 24, 2008.

The Johor prince was allegedly armed with a gun, which he purportedly used to hit Tunku Nadzimuddin in the head and face.

The Negri Sembilan family has filed a police report and is hoping that after 11 months there would be some results of the investigations.

Tunku Naquiah , the eldest daughter of the late Tuanku Jaafar Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the former Yang di Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, denied that she demanded any kind of compensation from Johor.

No demand for compensation

“No, I did not demand any kind of compensation, even though there were people advising me to ask for a sum of money.

“The A-G even advised us to settle the matter out of court,” she told a press conference here Thursday.

Her husband, Tunku Mudzaffar Tunku Mustapha as well as Tunku Nadzimuddin and his wife, Nur Azini Mohd Kamal, were present together with the family lawyer, M Puravalen, a friend Shamshuddhuha Ishak, and another family member, Tunku Imran.

“I want justice to be done. In any civilised society, if you point a gun at someone you are committing a criminal offence and should be charged. And, in most cases, get a term in prison immediately,” said Tunku Naquiah.

Photographs of the battered prince, an institutional clients’ manager with MAA KL Mutual Bhd, were shown to the media.

Relating the time she learned about the incident, Tunku Naquiah, said she received a call from Nur Azini at about 3am on Oct 25, 2008 and rushed to the hotel accompanied by her brother, Tunku Nadzaruddin and four policemen.

I threatened the hotel staff to take me to the 25th floor of the hotel (where her son and his friends were purportedly being held) or I’d call the police,” she said, adding that she later took her son to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Brief phone call from Johor mum

On Oct 26, the family lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station.

Tunku Naquiyah said she received a brief phone call from Raja Zarith Sofia, Tunku Ismail’s mother, who only said she was sorry that her son had bashed up Tunku Jimi, the nickname used by Tunku Nadzimuddin.

Asked why she was only making a statement now, she said after the death of her father and the marriage of Tunku Nadzimuddin, now was the right time now to seek justice.

On whether the case would have an impact on the upcoming by-election in Bagan Pinang, since the Negri Sembilan household is known to be supportive of Umno, she said it has nothing to do with politics.

“The AG had promised me a fair investigation and I am still waiting for that,” she said.

The family would discuss with their lawyers on the next course of action to take.

Following constitutional changes in the 1990s, members of royal households – with exception of the rulers - are not immune from prosecution and can be charged for criminal offences in the ordinary courts.

Recapping the events that led to the incident, Tunku Nadzimmudin said he was earlier at a club with his girlfriend (now his wife) and other friends after recuperating from a year-long chemotherapy treatment for his Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer (a cancer originating from a type of white blood cells called lymphocytes).

While at the club, he heard that several friends who were waiting for him there had been assaulted by several people claiming to be bodyguards of Tunku Ismail.

RMJ called to 'apologise'

They were later contacted by an unknown person who said that the RMJ (Raja Muda Johor) wanted to see him at the Crowne Plaza hotel to apologise.

When they reached there, said Tunku Nadzimmudin, he and his friends were forced into a lift and assaulted by the Johor prince.

“The lift stopped at the 25th floor, where we were forced into a room,” he said, adding that he saw his friend Shamshu Dhuha Ishak unconscious.

“My friends and I were held in the room for quite some time until my mother and uncle (Tunku Nadzaruddin) rescued us. They were in the corridor with four policemen.

AG acts on complaint

Meanwhile, Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail has promised the government will take action after a thorough investigation.

So far, 41 statements have been recorded from witnesses at two places in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 24 last year, he added.

Therefore the investigation paper has to be thoroughly studied and I will not hesitate to announce my decision once it is done, Gani said in a statement issued late Thursday.

An investigation paper was first submitted to the AG's Chambers on Nov 18 but returned to the police on Dec 1 for further investigations, he added. It was only resubmitted to the prosecution's office in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday and to him on Thursday.

Nevertheless, there have been ongoing advice and contact between the police and my officers, Gani said.

SEPT 17 - Let the mudslinging begin. Hours after a member of the Negri Sembilan royalty alleged that he was assaulted at gun-point by the Raja Muda of Johor in a five-star hotel, Team Johor hit back.

Supporters of the Johor royalty alleged that the Negri royalty are making this claim because their demand for a RM50 million settlement was not entertained.

Initially, the Johor royalty were hoping that the media would play down Tunku Nadzimuddin Tunku Mudzaffar’s claims that he had his friends were badly beaten up by Tunku Ismail Idris Abdul Majid on October 25 last year.

After all, they were quite successful in keeping the news out of the media in Malaysia when the incident happened.

Hoping to achieve similar success with the media, friends and supporters of the Johor royal household swung into action just after Tunku Nadzimuddin and his mother, Tunku Dara Naquiah Tuanku Ja’afar held a press conference to blow off the lid on the incident.

Again, they argued that this was a private matter between two royals.

But this time the mainstream media could not ignore the story, not with most news portals carrying reports, not with the interest shown in this episode by wire agencies.

In the days and weeks ahead, more salacious and tantalising information is going to be released by both sides as they attempt to influence the court of public opinion.

We may hear about blank CCTV tapes. We may hear about hesitant police response to a skirmish in a nightclub at KL’s Heritage Row. We may hear how out-of-court negotiations broke down.

We will get a peek into the lifestyles of the rich and pampered.

In all likelihood, both Team Negri and Team Johor are telling the truth. The assault probably took place and there was probably detailed discussion on monetary compensation.

All this will not surprise Malaysians who over the years have had front row seats to the excesses of the country’s royalty. It was not too long ago that a group of foreigners were beaten up by a member of the royal family on an island off Johor.

It was also not too long ago that a couple were threatened by a member of the royalty and his phalanx of security officials at Genting Highlands. (Remember This ???)

It was not too long ago that a member of the Kelantan royal family got into a spot of bother with his model wife.

In all those cases, no charges were brought against the aggressors.

So why is Tunku Nadzimuddin surprised that he has not had his day in court? The authorities are simply loath to get into a tangle with members of the royalty.

This is a fact which ordinary Malaysians have come to accept and joke about over dinner. Tunku Nadzimuddin is finding out what the commoners have known for a long time.

From Aidil :

What is it about all the royal families who think they are so great in the first place? Are they productive as the common man and do they even significantly contribute to the country other than being descendants of an irrelevant past?

These people do absolutely nothing but makan harta rakyat without remorse but insist it is their right to do so!!! And this is not the first time they act violently without a care about the law, human rights and even basic human dignity.

Why do the rakyat still revere them so much? If these so-called Sultans-in-waiting are supposed to be the future guardians of Islam in Malaysia and yet act so un-Islamically with impunity (drinking alcohol, getting drunk and violent, etc), what hope is there for lesser mortals like us? And you still look up to them???

A good question Aidil. Tell the people to sharpen the guillotines.
Those guillotines might be needed sooner than later.
Down with those fucking monarchies and you lot will fare much better.
Look at Singapore, only one Sultan Lee......

In the 1990s former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad managed to push through amendments to the Constitution which removed the immunity of royalty from prosecution.

Under the Constitution, the country's nine Sultans can be tried only by a special court.

Other members of royal households are not immune from prosecution and can be charged for criminal offences in the ordinary courts.

But will the court charge them ? That is the $64 question.

Those royalties are so permeated and soaked in the juices of their own importance that they have a role to play in upkeeping the feudalism alive, so by default, this is going to be fun to watch who is the bigger raja ?

The Malays are asking, "Why the fuck those BUGIS PIRATES are the monarchs of Tanah Melayu?"

Negri royalty demanded RM50m compensation

By ZULKIFLI ABD RAHMAN

KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor royal family is insisting the alleged assault issue has come out in the open because they refused to accept the Negri Sembilan royalty’s demand for a RM50mil compensation and unconditional apology.
Palace sources said the allegations were baseless and that the amount was “exorbitant and outrageous,” adding the Johor side would not “be bluffed.”
“Fifty million ringgit is an exorbitantly excessive sum for a broken nose.
“Check the court records and you will see that cases involving broken noses or nose-related injuries are between RM3,500 and RM27,000,” said the palace sources.
The alleged incident happened at a club known as the Heritage Mansion where someone from the Negri Sembilan royalty was claimed to have acted rudely and uttered insult against the Sultan of Johor and the Raja Muda of Johor.
