PM resting after early signs of chicken pox

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has been advised to rest at home and avoid all public and official functions following medication as a result of early signs of chicken pox. The Prime Minister’s media adviser, Datuk Seri Jalaludin Bahaudin, said in a statement issued to Bernama last night that Najib began to feel unwell and subsequently developed rashes, muscle aches and joint pains on the last day of the Asean summit and related summits in Hanoi, Vietnam.

On arrival here yesterday, Najib showed early signs of chicken pox and was immediately started on appropriate treatment. As medication was started early, he had responded well, said Jalaludin. Najib’s personal physician had advised him to rest at home and avoid all public and official functions, he added. “The Prime Minister apologises for any inconvenience caused,” Jalaludin added. In Klang, the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor represented her husband to launch the 1Malaysia Deepavali Carnival last night.

In the text of his speech read out by Rosmah, Najib said the Indian community was not backward as alleged by certain quarters. “Those who are portraying the Indian community as being a backward community are wrong. I can see from every corner Indian families and individuals working very hard to achieve success,” he said. Najib also reiterated that every individual born in Malaysia was a citizen and not an immigrant or pendatang. “I would like to stress once again that Malaysia belongs to all of us or namathu naadu (our country),” he added.
