Utusan Malaysia reported that a family in Kampung Penambang Bunga Emas in Kota Baru has been living in fear the past 10 months because of mysterious fires.

The latest incident occurred last Monday and was witnessed by the paper’s reporter and photographer.

The mysterious fire suddenly appeared at about 3pm and “struck” a face towel in a closet.

Nearly 10 people who saw the incident were dumbfounded before one of them quickly put out the fire.

House owner Zainab Sulaiman, 73, said before the attack, several other strange things had been occurring in her house such as cash going missing while rice would contain “budu” and red colouring liquid.

She said the fires have become more serious lately and have destroyed more than 200 items of clothing as well as two mattresses so far.

Zainab, who had been living in the house for 32 years, said the mysterious fires would appear on average five times a day.

Paranormal experts fail to get rid of ‘ghosts’ at grandma’s house

KOTA BARU: There seems to be no end to Zainab Sulaiman’s woes despite several attempts by paranormal experts to rid her of spirits believed to be behind over 200 mysterious fires which have broken out in her home.

On Wednesday night, a group of local Muslim ghostbusters called Darul Shifaq spent half the night in her house at Kampung Penambang Bunga Emas here chanting Quranic verses.

They also used blessed water to cleanse her ancient collection of keris, swords, and brasswares where the spirits are believed to be staying.

Darul Shifaq leader Zakaria Ya said djinn or spirits rarely possess human beings.

“We have come across this sort of paranormal activity before, and her ancient belongings may be the cause of the fires.

“Zainab could have inherited ancient keris or swords from her forefathers who could have practised black magic,” he said. Zainab says that the number of fires have increased.

“I counted at least 46 new fires appearing on anything made from cloth at all corners of the house since Wednesday.

“Despite the attempts of Darul Shifaq, the spirits are still here,’’ she said.

Zainab, 73, who lives in the wooden house with her daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, said an American couple visited her recently and offered to help rid the house of the spirits.

“They came here with tour guides at about 7pm, but I politely turned them down because of language problems.

“Furthermore, I am afraid anything I do now may anger the spirits further,” she said.

Earlier, a Siamese medium had attempted to chase away the spirits but was unsuccessful.

The fires have destroyed 200 items of clothing as well as prayer mats and two mattresses.

Widow gets paranormal help to break the ‘djinn-x’

KOTA BARU: Widow Zainab Sulaiman, whose house in Kampung Penambang Bunga Emas has been plagued by hundreds of small fires which seemed to ignite out of the blue, is getting help from paranormal experts from as far away as Penang.

The latest effort is by renowned spiritualist Ong Q Leng, who came to the aid of the 73-year-old on Saturday to chase away the “entity” and “lock” the house to prevent it from coming back and causing trouble again.

Ong, 36, also known as Master Ong in Penang, performed kung fu motions in her bid to get rid of the entity, saying the house was infested with evil djinns sent by someone with ill-intention.

Sensing the presence: Master Ong attempting to “catch” the spirits that have been haunting Zainab’s family for the past 10 months.

“I could sense an evil presence the moment I stepped into the house. There are little djinns under the house while the big ones are outside the house.

“I was able to chase away the small djinns but there is a 50-50 chance that they will return to cause mischief again.

“I have also provided ‘shields’ for Zainab and her family members, and advised her not to allow visitors as they could be possessed by the djinn,” she said.

The mysterious fires have destroyed more than 250 pieces of clothing as well as prayer mats and two mattresses over the past two weeks.

Last Wednesday, a local group of Muslim ghostbusters called Darus Shifaq had conducted prayers and chanted Quranic verses, including cleansing with blessed water her ancient collection of keris, swords, and brassware believed to be possessed by the djinn.

However, a day later, Zainab said at least 46 pieces of her clothing were destroyed after the fire started mysteriously, adding that she believed that the djinns might be angry with the presence of paranormal experts in her house.

“However, I would like to thank those who have helped me. I sincerely hope that this djinn would leave me alone because I have been having sleepless nights for the past fortnight, worrying that this house would catch fire while we are sleeping,” said Zainab.
