In my opinion from looking at the news and the way this whole mess has played out, the govts of the whole have over reacted with closures of schools, airports, and restrictions on travel and crowds and shopping, business and work, etc. If the resources were available for certain specific actions, alot of these restrictions could have been avoided and the world economy could have carried on business not as usual, but not like now where some countries are almost at a standstill.
Firstly, they should have locked down all the seniors and high risk people. They should be confined to their homes under self isolation. Seniors in retirement homes should have no visitors and no outside access. They should be completely under quarantine. If you do this, you will not see so many senior deaths or infections.
Every business and office tower that has workers and contains employees should have restricted entry points. People wanting to come to the building for work or meetings or whatever must come in with a face mask on, put on hand sanitizer in front of security and then allow security to scan them for fever with a thermal scanner or infrared thermal detection system. People working in cubicles must have a mask on at all times. People working in their own office must close their door but can remove their mask. Everyone should bring a few disinfectant wipes to wipe down their work space every day and to wipe the door handles, toilet faucets, etc. Every one eats at their office or workstation. No one congregates in the lunch room. Better still, they wear gloves through out their work day.
Same rules applies for people going into shopping malls or hawker centres, or supermarkets. Just set up checkpoints, scan every one for a fever and turn those away who have it, and make sure they wear their mask at all times, and make sure they use hand sanitizer in front of the security guard before they are allowed pass the checkpoint. They buy food, it has to be to go back to eat at their office or home. Not at the restaurant or food court with 6 other people at the table. That means there will be no more table cleaners or waitresses in the food establishments. they can be deployed to use the thermal scanners at the entry points.
The same applies for traveling. Scan every one when they come into the airport, Scan them again before they get on the flight. For longer flights, scan them in the plane every 6 hrs. People developing a fever should be face masked, and isolated in a seat at the back of the plane. Make sure everyone wipes down their seats, trays, arm rests, etc. make sure the toilet on the plane is disinfected by one crew member every hour. On shorter flights, no one should be allowed to use the toilet accept in emergency.
Will people still get sick. Yes. But 83% have minor to mild symptoms and recover quite well, according to the information out there. Those with underlying health issues and seniors should have a travel ban on them as well as be quarantined in their homes. If every one does the above, I think the spread of infections will be much lessen. Is it a zero spread? Of course not. But I think if the govts of the world could do this, this Covid would be of much lesser impact. I hope that in the future, the govts of the world will stock pile enough of these medical supplies, and ventilators such that every business and store and office tower can deploy them. Just my 2 cents.
The issue is that many countries do not have enough scanners. And many are still using much slower ways to measure body temperatures. As well, hand sanitizer and mask shortages as well as disinfectant shortages make it impossible to carry this out.
