I would have died of asthma on my birthday if not for Mum

Disaster nearly struck five years ago when Cheryl suffered an severe asthma attack on her birthday. Were it not for her mother's level-headedness, she might have lost her life there and then.

For this and many other reasons, Cheryl is thankful for her mother's love. Cheryl tells us more:

"My Mummy (aka my twin sister) has never failed to put in all her love, time, effort, care and concern for me!

"People always say that everyone remembers Mother's Day but not Father's Day. I believe this is because mothers are the ones who carry us in their wombs for nine months. After giving birth to us, they are also the ones who put in time and effort taking care of us and worrying about us around the clock.

"Even when we become adults, we are still children in the eyes of our mothers, so they will never stop doing their best for us.

"My mum is the kind of mother I never regret having and I really thank God for giving me such a wonderful mother.

"To be honest, ever since I was a kid, my mum would always be the one putting in her best for me because she knows that I do not have a dad. She was able to give me the kind of happy family I had always hoped for.

"At the time, I was too young to understand adult matters. All I remember is seeing my mum cry. I would console her and tell her not to cry, telling my father 'I want a happy family papa. I want a happy family', holding a family portrait I drew in pre-school.

"During my pre-school days, I had asthma so Mum was always worried about me, especially when I would start to cough very badly. This was because my asthma attacks usually start when I have a bad cough. She would never fail to buy me tonic drinks to keep myself healthy and to bring down the asthma.

"If my asthma were to come suddenly while I was still in school or at my grandparents' house, she would immediately drop everything to rush home and take me to the doctor, regardless of whether we had the money or not.

"The worst part came when I was in secondary school and mixed with all the wrong bunch of friends, turning rebellious. I was so naughty that I went to the extent of scolding her, shouting at her for being a nuisance and nagging at me for everything I did wrong, for coming home late at night or even the next day.

"I even neglected her in favour of my friends, but she did not give up on me. She always found the time to talk to me about what is right and wrong, telling me that no matter what happens, family are the people you can rely on. Only now, when I have grown up do I fully understand what she meant.

"On my birthday in 2005, the most tragic thing happened to me. I still remember that I was enjoying the birthday cake my mum bought for me when all of a sudden I suffered a really serious asthma attack. I couldn’t breathe and started gasping for air.

"My mum was shocked and frightened she would lose me but still behaved in a cool and steady manner nonetheless. She calmed me down and got my granddad to drive us to our family doctor. When we got there the doctor said that if we had not remained calm and were late by a few minutes, I would had been gone.

"Thanks to my beloved mum, I still have this opportunity to sit in front of a computer typing in this wonderful story about her. I'm glad that I can tell them how lucky I am to have such a wonderful and lovely mother like her.

"Till today, she is the mum takes care of me. Even when I am at work she will still come and look me up to see how I am doing as she knows that I am working hard to help out with this family.

"Though she is no longer young, she is still works hard to help out with family expenses. I work hard because I do not want to see my mum tire herself out.

"If I win this money, I will bring her out and pamper her, buying her whatever she likes and wants so that I can make her happy. It has been a while since I have seen a genuine smile on her face.

"Lastly, I want to say that I love you mummy, you are the greatest mummy I can ever ask for. Thank you so much for being there for me when I needed you the most and thanks for helping me out with everything I've ever needed. Thanks for being so understanding and providing a listening ear when I need one.

"Thanks for not giving up hope on me no matter how naughty I was, and not scolding or beating me but talking to me nicely hoping I would understand my mistake. Mummy I just want to say no matter what happens, I will always be there for you.

"Happy Mother’s Day! With love and hugs, Cheryl Lim, your eldest daughter."

hi there

1. honest, being some male or guy in sheepishland is totally unappreciated.
2. being the breadwinner and many, the sole income earner and provider, fathers are always sidelined and misinterpretated.
3. come on! sheep, fathers do play a vital role in the family.
4. without the bacon, see what will happen to young sheep?
5. screw, aware and screw spg in general.
6. as if there is no pressure and stress in the work environment, and men are suppose to take it bluntly and upfront.
7. talking about equality, shit man!

Disgusting marriage and giving birth at a later age .
