Dear Mr. Syed Putra.
Do you seriously think removing Alcohol tax would mean booze would be cheaper? Do pause & CRITICALLY THINK.
1) Biz entrepreneurs had seen that even with alcohol tax, MANY are still willing to part with hard earned savings to enjoy the night life, more so the rich China entrepreneurs with a China market size of 1.4Billion citizens to tap upon, which resulted in the RISE of prices for night life activities in Thailand where the average basic salary is only S$300/mth.
Those who worked in the night life, especially in agrarian society Thailand where nightlife exists, their basic salaries rose to S$4,000/mth & more, with thanks to those entrepreneurs from China, more so for the young & nubile Thai ladies, but sadly unwanted once beauty fades...
The attraction of the land of smiles that Thailand is, does NOT lay in booze & nightlife alone. There are MANY more factors that makes Thailand an attraction to tourists Worldwide, to gain social expenditures revenues thru & for better education, equality, upgrading of skills to meet global demands, uplift lives thru dignity, etc.
2) However, with the removal of alcohol tax alone, would it mean that booze would be cheaper? NO.
Biz entrepreneurs of nightlife & recreation centres, are mostly CARTEL like orgs, would at most reduce the cost of booze by a $1, to MAKE it like there is a reduction of costs, while keeping profits to themselves, & see a rise in the few owning lamborghinis, penthouses, etc. WHILE the nation & Thais WOULD face shortages in its revenues for social expenditures.
Would such profits had better served the many, or the few? This is a consideration that elected legislators would have to ponder, than to play to the gallery for votes to remain in power....as well as the dangers that binge drinking would bring to society...even after the horrific results from removal of penalties for drug consumption where drugs were sold like mobile multi-colored candy stores from clubs to clubs?
The insignificant nobody me has NO right to tell the Thais what to do, nor would they bother to listen. It is their own country & way of life. But is this an example of a society that you wish to belong to, for yourself, your loved ones & innocent generations to come?
