If you want to complain about oppositions, next time, pls disclose your party affiliation in the letter.
May 1 at 2:07pm Report
I am writing as a resident and voter of Aljunied GRC. It is my right to have concerns as a voter. Just as you have concerns wherever you are voting.
Kojak Bt May 1 at 3:20pm
That may be true. But as a member of PAP, don't you think it's only right for you to highlight this at the end of your letter so that a full disclosure will enable the readers in a better position to judge your letter?
Kojak Bt May 1 at 3:25pm
In your letter, you mentioned: "When vandals struck in a carpark in my estate, my MP, Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed, answered my complaint immediately and visited the carpark with the police the same day."
Honestly, pls ask yourself. If you are just an average Joe and not a PAP grassroots, do you think you would have gotten a fast response?
May 1 at 3:51pm Report
Hi Kojak BT
You will have to ask Mr Zainul why he responded so fast. I am not a volunteer for Aljunied (and never have been) so I do not have any info. I was only writing based on my own experience as his resident.
Those are questions I have as a resident and they are my concerns. I think they are valid concerns because this is where my home is. I sincerely hope the WP responds to my questions. As a voter, it is my responsibility to listen to all sides that are contesting so that was why I wrote in. If other Aljunied residents feel otherwise they can write in to ST with their views, or they can pose their questions to the WP or PAP team and do their due diligence before voting.
That is all I have to say with regard to this matter.
Thank you for writing to me and all the best with whatever cause you are trying to promote.
Regards
Khartini

Doesn't matter if you are not a volunteer for Aljunied. The bottomline is, he knows you and you are a grassroots leader. Don't you think this will help you to get things done much faster due to your PAP networking?
I'm not questioning about your concerns. Sure, you have valid concerns as an Aljunied resident. That is fine. But certainly, you are not an "ordinary" voter. You are also a member of PAP and certainly you have vested interest to see your own Party win, right? I mean it's only natural. I'm not saying you are wrong.
All I'm saying is, it would have been better if you let readers know your connection with PAP in the letter so that people can make up their own minds about the content of your letter. It's called full disclosure. You studied in the US, right? Don't you know the Americans value full disclosure on matters pertaining to public communication?

Kojak BT, I have seen you writing and posting everywhere and I do not even know your name! I think you are hardly the person to advise others on what to disclose when you have never even disclosed your identity.
Best regards

It doesn't matter who I am. I didn't write to ST Forum. You did. If I am an opposition member (I'm not - I'm just a regular netizen), say, writing to ST to criticise the PAP, I will duly tell everyone about my party affiliation.
You are familiar with journalism, right? For example, in this report by BusinessWeek, the journalist was quoting an analyst from a sister company of BusinessWeek. The writer duly disclosed such relationship and leave it to the readers to draw their own conclusion:
A New Twist On Retiree Health Care

The nation's pension crisis, it turns out, is only the second-largest long-term liability facing U.S. businesses. Far greater are underfunded health-insurance promises to current and future retirees. The companies that make up the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index are an astonishing $321 billion shy of what they need, according to senior analyst Howard Silverblatt at Standard & Poor's Corp. (which, like BusinessWeek, is owned by The McGraw-Hill Companies (MHP )).

See, the problem is since you have never disclosed your name, I cannot ascertain for sure if you have ever written to ST or any other newspapers. How would I know? How can I trust you are just "a regular netizen" when I do not know your name?
I rest my case, you are in no position to advise anyone on disclosure until you come out of your shell and stop hiding behind a pseudonym.
Good day, good luck and goodbye.
Best regards,
Khartini

Er... you miss the point. First of all, I can assure you I've never written to any newspapers in my life. But that is not the point. The point is, this matter concerns you, not me. The fact is, you have written a piece to ST complaining about the opposition and presenting yourself as a "regular" resident when you are actually a member of the ruling party. Certainly, you have a vested interest to see the opposition lose and PAP win in Aljunied, don't you?
In a way, by not disclosing your party affiliation in the letter, you are deceiving the public.
