SEOUL, Nov 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia has requested that the acquisition of South Korean-made FA-50M fighter jets, which were previously scheduled for completion in 2026, be expedited.

“We are requesting that the (process) of the acquisition that was made a few years ago (namely) 18 units of FA-50M aircraft, which should arrive (in 2026), be expedited.

“If possible, expedite it,” the prime minister told Malaysian journalists, when wrapping up the results of his official visit to South Korea, which included a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The prime minister, however, did not give details on the negotiation to expedite the acquisition process.

In September, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the fighter jet manufacturer, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Hanwha Aerospace had reached 38 per cent of the aircraft’s construction.

Nah, Korean products I don't trust. Their SAMSUNG TVs will spoil not long after their warranties are over. Their Hyundais and KIAs got court actions in America for catching fires due to machining chips not being fully flushed during production and causing excessive engine heat built up and subsequent fires due to inadequate oil lubrication, replacing a new set of batteries for their Hyundai EVs will cost more than a new car itself, which is totally ridiculous, etc.

I myself had bad experiences with our Korean clients. They are not only very unreasonable, but also very demanding. During an argument session, I told the manager: Since you keep asking for spare parts, why don't you just buy another machine and put it on standby so that at any time you can cannibalize whatever you need from it immediately. His face then turned black.

I'd once wanted to buy a water pump to replace for my tenant's SAMSUNG washing machine. I called to the SAMSUNG office in Gateway Jurong East. They told me that they won't sell any spare parts to walk-in customers. I must instead called for their technician to make a trip and quote for the repair. I was telling myself: WTF? Why can't I DIY the repair myself? So, I told my tenant to scrap it and get a new SHARP washing machine instead because by calling for their technician and the cost of a new water pump+transportation+labor charge, the final cost will be almost equal to a new SHARP washing machine and with a 1-year warranty as well.

They can buy the most expensive and powerful fighter planes. But, they cannot stop the engines from going missing.

Don't worry about hypothetical foreign enemies when the actual domestic enemies are ruling you.

The light fighter FA-50 uses same engine as their current F-18D fleet of 8 aircraft.
Currently, rmaf have inspected and are go to purchase used Kuwait F-18 c and d variants. Probably about 38 units in all. Waiting for approval from uncle SAM.

But having seen current russia Ukraine war where artillery and missiles are the weapon of choice to destroy enemy position, it's better to just use drones instead.

Rmaf mig 29 have been mothballed due to parts issues as some are from Ukraine I was told and current conditions make it impossible to get.
