PETALING JAYA: By day, they are typical business areas but at night, they turn into bustling gambling hubs where e-gambling is all the rage. For extra pleasure, there are nightclubs, pubs and places offering sex services.
The lack of enforcement by the authorities has led to the mushrooming of these places in Selangor.
Starprobe discovered such locales thriving in parts of Petaling Jaya, Klang, Sungai Buloh, Selayang, Batu Caves, Rawang, Gombak and Kepong.
In some of these places, illegal gambling is the core business with mamak stalls, pubs and other nightspots benefiting from the clients.
E-gambling dens can be found in several commercial areas in Klang, Selayang, Petaling Jaya, Batu Caves and Kepong.
Blocks of shoplots in these places have been turned into virtual casinos. Most of them operate on the ground floor with tinted glass facades and doors but there are also those that are located in offices and residential units.
In Petaling Jaya, the place with the biggest number of illegal gambling outlets is Sunway Mentari. Checks showed that there are about 50 in the area.
There are 20 such premises in Jalan PJS 8/4, a street which does not sleep.
