Remember this case where numerous police reports were lodged and 999 calls made since 2015. Out of sheer exasperation, the parents sought the help of their MP Shanmugam on 30 March 2016 on stalking by the victim and harassment of the mother. 3 months after seeking Shanmugam's help the son took the law into his own hands out of desperation and killed the stalker. 2 days before on 7th July 2016, the father pleaded for help again for help from the authorities on Facebook.

Why the silence. 2 families have been destroyed needlessly. Imagine 3 months after a direct appeal to a cabinet Minister and nothing was done.

Police confirms Shanmugam intervened for family of accused in case of unnatural death in Yishun
July 11, 20168346

The police has further commented on the death of the 26-year-old man Shawn Ignatius Rodrigues. They have confirmed that the suspect’s MP, Mr K Shanmugam, made an appeal in a case of outrage of modesty. Police were in the process of investigating this complaint.

Besides the outrage of modesty case, three other reports for alleged nuisance by the deceased were also lodged. The deceased had allegedly turned up at the accused’s house to look for the latter and been asked by the accused’s family to leave. Police confirmed that the deceased, a 26-year-old Singaporean male and the accused, a 20-year-old Singaporean male, had known each other for a few years.

In addition, the accused’s family had also made a number of ‘999’ calls whenever the deceased had turned up at the accused’s house.

The deceases had also lodged a police report on 30 June 2015, alleging that he had been assaulted by the accused in the vicinity of Blk 279 Yishun Street 22 on 23 June 2015. The deceased later indicated that he did not wish to pursue the matter further.

The statement further revealed that the accused’s family had also lodged a Magistrate Complaint against the deceased, and that bot parties had also been attending Community Court mediation proceedings since February 2016, with the last session held in May.

The police also appealed to members of the public to not comment on the case until the case is dealt with in Court. It said:

“The Police will conduct a thorough investigation and there will be proceedings in Court, in relation to the death of the deceased. Pending the Court proceedings, everyone should refrain from commenting or speculating about the case, and what may or may not have happened. Commenting, speculating on issues, which will have to be dealt with in Court proceedings, may be sub judice.”

It said that once the proceedings are over, and the facts have been established in Court, then the people are free to comment on the matter, the facts, including the conduct of all the parties, the investigations, and the legal process.
