Neighbours alerted police on Sunday after they heard “chopping noises” coming from the the tiny Hong Kong apartment.
When cops arrived, the 37-year-old mum refused to let them in, forcing them to smash down the door in order to gain entry.
Once inside, officers found a bloody scene and found the young girl’s body in the bathroom.
Assistant district commander Chung Chi-ming said: “Her head, organs and body had been mutilated.
“The bathroom had been flooded which was affecting neighbouring flats.”
Police said there was no record of the woman’s mental history, or evidence of domestic violence.
Chung later said she was not able to cooperate with officers at the time following her arrest.
He said: “We have to wait until her situation gets better to investigate.”
