A 30-year-old Malaysian apparently went missing in Thailand and his family members are appealing for information.

According to a Xiaohongshu user, who identified herself as the man's cousin, the Malaysian became uncontactable after embarking on a trip to Bangkok on Jan. 8, 2025.

When he did not show up at work in Singapore on Jan. 15, his colleagues visited his family members and told them he had been absent for two days.

The Xiaohongshu user added that while the man informed his colleagues and relatives that he would be visiting Bangkok with a "friend", none of them knew who the "friend" was.

To find out about his whereabouts, the man's family members flew to Singapore from Malaysia on Jan. 19 to check with the authorities whether he had reentered Singapore.

In the comments section, the Xiaohongshu user shared that his family planned to fly to Thailand soon to report the case to Thai authorities.

As of Jan. 22, two days after the Xiaohongshu user posted about the missing man, her post has garnered 250 comments and 374 likes.

In the comments section, many brought up the example of Chinese actor Wang Xing.

Earlier this month, Wang made headlines after his girlfriend reported him missing near the Thai-Myanmar border after he flew to Bangkok for a "film shoot" on Jan. 3.

Four days later, Thai authorities announced that they had found Wang and had brought him back to Bangkok from Myanmar.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a Chinese gang had apparently scammed Wang into travelling to Thailand by posing as a representative of a prominent Thai entertainment company.

Upon his arrival, Wang was transported to Myanmar via boat and forced to undergo days of scam training at a complex.

Although Wang said in a press conference after his rescue that Thailand was a "very safe" travel destination, many Chinese travellers reportedly cancelled their trips to Thailand en masse upon learning about his ordeal.

Hong Kong singer Eason Chan also cancelled his Bangkok concert due to concerns about concertgoers' safety while travelling to Thailand.
