<!--background story, collapse if none-->3-FOLD FEE INCREASE FOR PRS

The increase will be substantial, with fees for PRs to go up by more than three-fold by 2012. For instance, a PR in secondary school now pays $264 a year against a Singaporean's $252. In 2012, the fees for PRs will go up to $852. For non-PR foreign students in secondary school, it could go up to as high as $5,832.

JOHOR BARU - MALAYSIANS whose children are studying in Singapore have been caught by surprise by an announcement that school fees for permanent residents (PR) and non-PR students in the Republic will be raised in 2011.
Housewife Dalillah Yusof, 46, whose three children with PR are currently studying in Singapore, is shocked to hear about the impending move.
'I am currently paying $180 per year for my son in secondary school and $144 each for my son and daughter in primary school," she said. "If the Singapore Government increases the fees substantially, I may have to review my decision to send my children to schools there.'
Education Minister Ng Eng Hen announced on Sunday the plan to increase the school fees for foreign students as part of a move to draw a distinction between Singaporeans and non-citizens.
A businesswoman, who wished to be known as Ms Hiu, 50, said she might have to consider other options should her non-PR daughter's primary school fees be increased to triple the current amount. She said: 'She has been following the Singapore's school syllabus for the whole of primary school. It will be very difficult to take her out from the school as the syllabus is different from Malaysia.'
She, however, was thankful that the Government had given a year's notice on the proposed hike. Currently, about 8 per cent of students in Singapore's public schools are PRs, and 4 per cent are international students. -- THE STAR

FTs are so rich even 10 times will be pocket change !

Well, they have many choices. They can become a citizen here, or have their children study at Malaysia schools or pay up the fee increase. So, what's the problem?

Yep. The crucial thing to whack back to the PRs is YOU HAVE A CHOICE.

It is not as if they are being dragged by a rope and dumped into a drain. This is a small thing niah. I want to see more from the government on Employment Pass applications and PR applications.

1)I am happy that we finally have a better clearer gap between locals and others
2)If they want to enjoy citizen type benefits they can jollywell become citizen. If they dun have enough balls to take up the responsibility then they should just shut up

On a another note

Since the freaking government is making so much more from Foreigners, why in the world of F is there no lowering of fees for locals. There is absolutely no excuse for it to be this way

Singapore government attract them here then bind them
with all the neccessary price increase which they can never escape .

Many PR will convert to citizen for sure. Those not convert sure are rich can afford to pat extra few hundred to few thousand $$$.
