SINGAPORE: A Malaysian man has been detained after he allegedly tried to smuggle illegal drugs into Singapore.

Immigration officers and those from the Central Narcotic Bureau, found "Ice" and other illicit drugs from his vehicle.

The drugs came to light, when the vehicle was stopped for checks at the Woodlands Checkpoint, on Sunday night. The drugs were bundled with black masking tape, hidden inside the vehicle's speedometer compartment.

A total of 10 bundles - consisting of 400 Erimin-5 tablets, approximately 26 grammes of Ice, 42 grammes of Ketamine and 43 Ecstasy tablets - were uncovered, along with drug paraphernalia such as smoking utensils and a weighing scale.

If convicted, the accused can jailed for at least five years and be given a minimum of five strokes of the cane.
