THE new Circle Line stations were not the only centre of attraction yesterday.
MP Fatimah Lateef, in whose Geylang Serai ward several Circle Line stations are located, and Land Transport Authority (LTA) chief Yam Ah Mee became 'models' for a day, using a walkway in the Paya Lebar station as a catwalk.
Strutting and twirling in clothes sponsored by local designer Lai Chan to dance music and cheers from the crowd, they were there for a purpose - to raise money for the 'LTA Cares' fund, which springs for the transport needs of working adults and students who are physically disadvantaged and require financial help to take taxis to get around.
Other 'models' included national footballer John Wilkinson, LTA employees including Mr Wilkinson's wife Karen Ng, beauty queens and grassroots leaders.
More than $100,000 was raised from SMRT, Citibank, CityLink Mall and the Geylang Serai Citizens' Consultative Committee.
Last year, 85 people benefited from the fund, which works on a reimbursement basis.
