It’s a common practice for politicians in Malaysia to hold officiating ceremonies whenever a new building or facility is being introduced to the public.
However, it seems that certain politicians have an odd inclination for officiating events that seem to have little to no impact to citizens, such as a new ATM machine.PAS MP holds ribbon-cutting ceremony for new ATM
In a Twitter post uploaded yesterday (Apr 9), it showed PAS MP Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a brand new ATM machine at a BHP petrol station. As several others looked on, the Besut MP could be seen cutting the ribbon tied around the ATM machine while one of his colleagues gave a thumbs up, seemingly satisfied about the former’s ‘achievement’ in providing an ATM machine for the public to use.
Triggers mockery from netizens
The tweet, which has since been viewed more than 420,000 times, saw several comments from netizens who teased the PAS MP for holding an ‘officiating’ ceremony for something so trivial.“Poor things. Must be their first time seeing an ATM machine.”
“Even for an ATM machine he also needs to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Most efficient MP ever.”
One netizen corrected the OP in his caption which said that this was a first in Malaysia by posting a photo of another MP who also did the same for an ATM machine in 2020.
Another netizen however, hit back and said that those living in rural areas have been waiting for a long time for an ATM machine to be provided and were very happy to see it become a reality.
