SINGAPORE: A Member of Parliament for Chua Chu Kang GRC, Zaqy Mohamed, has taken issue with an article published by The Real Singapore website about the Chua Chu Kang Town Council's management of a fall incident.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mr Zaqy said the article makes serious allegations about him and the integrity of the Town Council General Manager about the replacement of staircase railings.

He added that the accusations published are false and border on defamation.

Thus, Mr Zaqy has asked The Real Singapore website to show proof to back up the article within the next 24 hours. If it is unable to do so, he calls on the website to remove the post and apologise for having published false information.

The issue in question is a posting on the website by Ms Serene Tham about an incident at Block 293, Chua Chu Kang Avenue 3, two months ago.

Ms Tham said that she had fallen down in the area due to the poor management of the staircase and ended up being injured badly.

Mr Zaqy said the matter is currently undergoing investigations for an insurance claim and he is urging all parties to respect the legal process. He added that he would have expected The Real Singapore website administrator to know that during such a time, disclosure of facts would be prejudicial to the parties involved.

Mr Zaqy stressed that the article contributor, Ms Serene Tham, has personal interests as she is the one claiming insurance in this case.

Responding to Mr Zaqy's call, the website said it is not the one making the allegations as it is a platform to allow average Singaporeans to voice their concerns.
