A man was sentenced to six months' jail and banned from driving for five years on Thursday for causing death by dangerous driving.
Ng Boon Choi, 50, who pleaded guilty, was driving along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 when he ran the red lights at the T-junction of Ang Mo Kio Street 42, on April 26, 2010, hitting student Toh Zheng Xuan, 17, who was crossing at the pedestrian crossing. He died five days later.
A district court heard that Ng, who runs an electrical installation business, sped up upon seeing the amber light while driving along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.
When he crossed the junction, the lights had turned red against him.
