Motorist fined and banned for causing pedestrian's death

A quantity surveyor who caused the death of a pedestrian was fined $6,000 and banned from driving for three years on Friday.
Yuen Chun Chin, 44, admitted that he failed to keep a proper lookout while driving along South Bridge Road, colliding into Madam Yeo Chiaw Hoon, 56, and causing her death on Dec 16, 2010.
The court heard that Yuen, whose wife was a front-seat passenger, had slowed down and came to a stop behind a taxi which made a right turn into Upper Hokkien Street that morning.
After the cab had completed the right turn, he proceed to drive straight at about 20kmh.
