SINGAPORE: A mother and daughter accused of maid abuse settled the matter with their domestic helper after paying a $5,000 compensation and issuing her a public apology.
Kassiammal V Sinnathamby, 66, faced one charge of stepping on the hand of her 24-year-old Indonesian maid while the domestic helper was folding clothes in her Choa Chu Kang flat in May last year.
Kassiammal's daughter, Chandrakala Govindarajoo, 32, faced two charges of kicking and slapping the maid and using a white plastic bowl to hit her head twice.
With the compensation, the maid agreed to have the matter compounded.
For offences against a domestic maid, the pair could have been jailed up to two years. - CNA/jy
