A woman was arrested yesterday (16 Mar) for allegedly threatening her daughter with a knife.

The incident happened at about 3.30pm at a flat on the second floor of Blk 285D, Toh Guan Road, near the IMM building at Jurong East.

A 51-year-old Chinese woman had allegedly locked her daughter in the house and used a knife to intimidate her.

A witness told reporters that loud quarreling was heard coming from the unit, and a woman was heard screaming and sobbing.

Police and Civil Defence personnel arrived not long after, as residents in the area gathered to watch the commotion.

The younger woman, in her 20s, is understood to have called other family members for help after she was locked in by her emotional mother.

The family members then called the police.

A neighbour described to reporters that another young woman, also the 51-year-old woman's daughter, was outside the house to help the police.

The young woman unlocked the door for the police, who held shields and charged into the house to subdue the emotional older woman.

It is understood that the older woman did not put up a struggle before she was handcuffed and brought back to the police station.

According to a Civil Defence spokesperson, no one was hurt in the incident.
