</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I REFER to Mr James Wong's letter on Thursday, 'NUS facility: This must be Singapore's most expensive carpark', about parking rates in campus carparks.
There are 16 visitor carparks at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Kent Ridge campus, whose standard parking rate of $0.0214 per minute is comparable to the rate in National University Hospital (NUH) carparks.
NUS also has carparks for staff who are season parking holders, located near teaching facilities and resource centres. To prevent unauthorised parking, a surcharge of $0.0642 per minute is imposed for vehicles parked in staff carparks.
Visitors who mistakenly drive into the staff season carparks can exit these areas without any charge within a 15-minute grace period.
Those who do not will need to pay the additional parking surcharge imposed on non-season parking holders, on top of the $0.0214 per minute charge for visitor parking.
Information on the additional surcharge is carried on the signs at the entrances of, and within, staff season parking areas.
We have explained to Mr Wong that the standard carpark charge for two hours in the visitors' parking area of Carpark 10, the nearest Kent Ridge public carpark to NUH, would cost $2.568. If he had parked in Carpark 10's staff season parking area, he would have incurred the additional surcharge. Two hours' parking in Carpark 10 carries a surcharge of $7.704, on top of the visitor parking rate, bringing the total charge to $10.272.
We advise visitors to park in visitor carparks and take the free campus-wide shuttle service to their destinations.
