More people should be encouraged to cycle as transportation to rescue Singapore from notoriety of our environmental pariah status in the world https://climateactiontracker.org/countries/singapore/ (same rank as Iran, Russia, Saudi and Thailand: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/environment/can-singapores-climate-targets-be-more-ambitious ).
Probably COE should be slashed 50%, petrol duties and parking charges increase 50%, grow more trees to cool environment and reduce usage of air conditioning (waste tremendous electricity and water), grow trees, to be harvest for furniture/wood/paper or fertiliser, community farming gardens to uplift poor with nutritious foods, cut healthcare expenditure because exercise reduces diabetes and downstream complications like cancer, dementia and dialysis which all incur expensive lifelong medical treatment, to fund environmental research, employment and industrial transformation. Stimulate education and tourism sectors at all levels for students and edu tourist to learn not how to corruptly green-wash a city but how a genuinely green city is built and allow tourist to cycle while they discover, so they can really feel the cleanness, coolness, fresh air and tranquil temperament of a true city in a forest people, the spirit of a consciously health and earth loving society and be inspired to replicate the same green credentials/ environment engineering and architectural methods back home.
This is what Singapore needs to do to stay relevant and rescue the world from Armageddon, unfolding environmentally now.
