Moderate earthquake shakes north Sumatra
KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook North Sumatra in Indonesia at 8.50am Wednesday, said the Meteorological Department.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located 2.8 latitude north and 99.0 longitude east, 28km south-west of Permatang Siantar and 241km south-west of Pulau Pangkor in Perak.
The statement said that several areas in Selangor felt the tremor but it did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department told Bernama that it did not receive any call on the tremor. --
