<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> AN UNEMPLOYED man who cheated or tried to deceive victims into signing mobile phone plans to get high monthly rebates was jailed for 12 months on Monday. Muhammad Nazri Azman, 23, admitted to trying to deceive Ms A'inunlhusna Othman, 23, into believing that she would receive monthly cash rebates of up to $500 at Tampines Mall on Aug 5. He tried to make her sign up a phone plan with MobileOne and to deliver a new mobile phone set to him. Earlier on March 26, he deceived Ms Nurashikin Sa'adam, 21, into believing that she would receive a monthly cash rebate of up to $500 by signing up with M1 and induced her to hand over a $1,258 cellphone to him. A third victim, Madam Norlia Hassan, 61, his ex-girlfriend's mother, was similarly duped that month into handing over two cellphones to him worth $1,586 for signing up two mobile phone plans to get the cash rebates. All the offences were committed with his then 22-year-old girlfriend, who was also a victim in two of the three charges which were taken into consideration against Nazri. Nazri, who has a similar previous conviction, could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined on each charge.
