Singapore’s Lee says Vietnam better positioned in global downturn
Vietnam is in a better position than Singapore in the current global economic recession, Singaporean Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said during a meeting with Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Le Thanh Hai Monday.
Lee suggested Vietnam should make every effort to train its labor force, and improve its English to better access the world’s advanced educational systems. The country would also be wise to send young teachers and students abroad to learn and come back to train local students, he suggested.
Lee also shared measures that Singapore is taking to minimize the negative effects of the global economic crisis to prepare for a recovery, expected to come late next year or early in 2011.
The Singaporean minister will visit the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in Binh Duong Province today before leaving for Hanoi during his April 13- 17 visit to Vietnam at Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s invitation.
