MM Lee forgot he was once an "Obama"

Obama’s Presidential victory must be a nightmare turn true for MM Lee Kuan Yew whose disdain for popular democracy was well known.

“The problem with popular democracy is that candidates are not judged during elections on how well they can govern, but on their persuasive powers.” he said in an interview with Straits Times this year in February.

After four decades in government, MM Lee has forgotten that he was once an “Obama” too before he became the Prime Minister of Singapore. His PAP, the a relatively unknown party founded in 1954, was in the opposition for only 5 years before it won the legislative elections in 1959, thereby paving the way for Lee to become Singapore’s first Prime Minister.

Had Singaporeans follow MM Lee’s exhortations to go for ‘experience’, he will never be where he is today. It precisely because Singaporeans are moved by his persuasive powers and inspired by his vision for Singapore that they are willing to give him a chance to lead in spite of the PAP’s limited experience in governance then.
