Young Sinkies born after 1975 have never really known real hardships. Pampered in an era of growth and security, they grew up fat in the belly and soft in the head. Most are better educated than their parents...and many have had educational and employment opportunities their parents can only dream of.
In the comfort of their environment which they have taken for granted, they show their ingratitude by heaping scorn and derision upon the government and social values that have given them their benefits from birth.
They complained and cursed the imposed hardships of National Service as a burden of citizenship. They wailed even louder when they lose out to smarter and hungrier foreigners whose inherent disadvantages they (the pampered Sinkie) would never understand nor appreciate.
They slept well thus far...comforted in the (perceived) asurance that there will always be an aircon room and roof over their heads, and mummy and daddy to give them pocket money if they didn't feel like going to work.
We are now on the brink of the most serious economic crisis the world is going to see. Singapore is probably the best buffered of many countries but even the PAP cannot produce miracles this time...not when such a tsunami strikes. Already the retrenchments have started. Asset values will fall. Credit will be hard to come by. Hard times will definitely be upon us. Only those with adequate financial reserves and a capacity to take advantage of adversity will come up smiling in all this.
Yes the older generation will be hit just as hard but many of them have been through this before, and will scrape through.
The youngsters....I wonder if they will now be able to rise to the challenge..or just whine and whimper all the way to their doom?
Nature is about to take its course. The survival of the fittest may be a good way to purify our stock and weed out the dead wood.
