I give up seat to woman but she asks her friend to take it instead

STOMPer BKS gave up his seat to a woman on the train, but she asked her friend to take it instead.

In an email to STOMP today, the STOMPer recounted the incident:

“I am a ‘pre-senior citizen’ of 55.

“I was sitting on the priority seat on the MRT and was dosing off. The train was not so crowded.

“As the train was jerky when it stopped, I opened my eyes.

“I saw a big tummy at my eye level. I thought she was a pregnant lady and since I think the pregnant lady needs the seat more than me, I immediately stood up and signal to her to take my seat.

“I was surprised that she (red T blouse) did not take up the seat and asked her friend (seated in purple blouse) to take the seat instead.

“I moved to other side of the train and put up my glasses to take a good look. It turned out that I was blurred - she was not pregnant and she did not even say a word of thanks when I gave up the seat.”

She replied "i am not pregnant. just overweight."
