KOTA KINABALU: A 39-year-old nurse, missing since Saturday, was found murdered and dumped in a drain near a housing area at Kingfisher Park here. The half-naked and decomposing body of Annie John Diamas (pic) was spotted by residents, who found the victim inside a narrow and deep drain at about 11.40am yesterday. There was indication of a head injury, said acting Sabah deputy police commissioner SAC Tan Kok Liang at the scene.

He said the victim was discovered only with clothes on her upper body.
Annie, who worked at the Kudat Hospital in northern Sabah, had been here with her fiance on Sept 30 to attend courses at Open University Malaysia at Jalan Lintas. Jealousy possible motive in nurse's murder

MUGUNTAN VANAR

KOTA KINABALU: The murder of a nurse, whose body was found semi-clothed and dumped in a drain near Kingfisher Park on Tuesday, may have been due to jealousy. Police arrived at the conclusion after arresting a 41-year-old man who was also the victim’s friend. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim, in confirming the arrest, said Wednesday they were also looking at other possibilities as they awaited a post mortem report on the death of 39-year-old Annie John Dismas.

Annie’s decomposing body was found on Tuesday morning after she went missing at about 5pm on Saturday. A missing persons report was lodged at 2am on Sunday after family members found her car at a parking lot at Jalan Dewan in town here. Noor Rashid said police believed that the arrest of the man could shed some light on the case but declined to say if he was the main suspect.

"It is still premature for us to say anything,” Rashid said. He urged those with information or who saw the victim prior to her disappearance to contact the Karamunsing police station. Annie was believed to have been hit on the head and suffered a broken rib. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the she might have been killed elsewhere and her body disposed in a deep but narrow drain near the housing estate.

Annie, a who worked at a hospital in Kudat, was attending a two-week course on nursing at the Open University Malaysia campus here. She had been in the state capital since Sept 30 and was living with the family of her fiance in Penampang. Meanwhile, Sabah Health Department director Dr Mohd Yusof Ibrahim expressed shock over the murder and extending his and the department's condolences to the family.

Two more held over nurse’s death

KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested two more men in connection with the murder of a 39-year-old nurse whose semi-naked body was dumped in a drain near a housing estate in Kingfisher Park here on Oct 12. The two men believed to be locals from northern Kudat district were picked up on Monday as police intensified their probe into the death of Annie John Dismas who had injuries to her head and a broken rib.

Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Sofi Zakaria yesterday confirmed the two arrests but declined to give details. The men were arrested about a week after police held a 41-year-old male friend of the victim. Police believe that the male friend is the prime suspect in the murder and have not ruled out jealousy as a possible motive.

Annie’s car was found parked outside a hotel. It is learned that police are still scrutinising the hotel guest list on the day before and after Annie’s disappearance. Her nurse’s uniform was found some 2km from where her body was found. It is widely suspected that Annie was still alive when she was dumped into the drain.
