Mild quakes hit several parts of the country

A number of mild earthquakes hit Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara, Mentawai in North Sumatra and Ternate in North Maluku on Saturday evening, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported on Sunday.
The agency said an earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale hit Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday at midnight. The epicenter of the quake was reportedly 114 kilometers northeast of Kupang, at a depth of 33 kilometers beneath the sea.
Earlier in the day, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted Mentawai, with its epicenter located at 376 kilometers southwest of Mentawai at a depth of 134 kilometers.
Also Saturday, an earthquake of 5.3 on the Richter scale hit North Maluku, with its epicenter at 131 kilometers northwest of Ternate, at a depth of 94 kilometers. (rid)
