Migraine leaves British woman speaking with Chinese accent

A severe migraine has left a British woman suddenly speaking with a Chinese accent, AFP reports.

Sarah Colwill says she suffered brain damage after the migraine, which left her with the rare Foreign Accent Syndrome. Her British accent now has a Chinese twang.

The 35-year-old from southwest England is undergoing speech therapy in an attempt to correct her accent, which she said she is not pleased with:

"I spoke to my stepdaughter on the phone from hospital and she didn't recognize who I was. She said I sounded Chinese. Since then, I have had my friends hanging up on me because they think I'm a hoax caller ... The first few weeks of the accent was quite funny, but to think I am stuck with this Chinese accent is getting me down. My voice has started to annoy me now. It is not my voice."

Her grammar is horrible to begin with. So naturally when she loses her accent, her poor command of English is laid bare for all to hear...

i feel really sorry for her. The only thing worse than a Chinese accent would be a Sinkie accent.

I guess she can count her blessings she hasn't ended up speaking Singlish.
