hello, i'm a statistic in the sea of retrenchments that have occurred over the past 1 and half years. i'm still unemployed after more than a year.

i'm at the end of the line now and i'd like to sign on SAF as an officer. but i was an NCO during my NSF days.

will MINDEF accept me? is there an accelerated OCS programme available for someone like me in my situation? obviously i can't go humping through 9 months of OCS with 18/19 year old teenage boys and girls.

i think this is something quite new, isn't it? looking forward to hearing views from everyone, both regulars and civilians.

In many Western countries with professional armies, they accept officer candidates and even recruits well into their 30s, and they go through the same training as the 20+yos. It is rare for them to have officer candidates younger than 20.

The French Foreign Legion recruits up to 45. This chap might want to consider that.

He didn't make it as an officer when he was half his age now, what makes him think he can make it now? What entitles him to an "accelerated program"? His age? His life experience?

Cut-off age for regular military or police enrolment is 26 years 6 months. If you're not a regular by then, you can only be reservist or volunteer.
