Men look for less pretty wives

People tend to think wealthy single men look only at pretty girls when considering taking a wife. However, the Hubei-based Chutian Metro Daily reports many men are on the lookout for a chubby wife who, if an old Chinese superstition is to be believed, will bring their husbands good luck.
In Chinese fortuning-telling tradition, there are particular features of a wife which are believed to bring enduring good luck to her husband. For instance, a woman with a round face and rotund figure is allegedly able to ensure for her husband great fortune. A 45 year old bachelor surnamed Liu said he wants a wife who is "not too pretty...has a round face...and chubby body." He said being chubby makes one look like they are enjoying a good life.
Another 44 year old single man, surnamed Dung, who runs a mineral and metal concern and invests in real estate, listed conditions for his ideal spouse: being born in the year of the mouse and from a family of government officials. Dung claimed that, according to a fortune-teller, a woman born in the year of the mouse is the best match for men born in the year of the monkey. Additionally, the specific family background behooved of a future wife will help him with his career, he believes.
These men believe that pretty women are less able to help them either in career or in taking care of children. "I've seen too many pretty women. They are not suitable for being a good wife to me. I need to take care of and soothe a pretty girl instead. I will be too tired," stated Dung, saying he especially can not accept a girl with her nails painted and with too much perfume.
