I brought this up before, but was shot down by a forummer who perhaps thought that I was once of those living in a foreign country who would always criticize SG. Well, I'm not.

There was once I saw a pappy mp doing his walkabout at a hawker centre. A dishevelled looking man who would wander around that hawker centre, occasionally looking into dustbins and perpetually with a scowl on his face for his neighbours and fellow residents, was also around that day. When the pappy mp and his grassroots followers came face to face with the dishevelled man, the latter suddenly broke into a smile and shook the pappy's hand. (I don't know if the pappy knew that his hand was just inside a dustbin.)

This is me is indicative of the nature of many singaporean voters. Downhearted with life, in a bad mood, unfriendly to his fellow man, perpetually scowling, some even on the brink of desperation. But the moment they meet a big shot elite pappy, they break into a smile. Very diferent from other countries, where people like this would tend to be very disgruntled with the government and show it.

Don't know whether you agree or disagree with this observation, but what would you do if you met a pappy?
I would tell him to his face: 'I don't talk to or shake hands with pappies." Would you dare to?

You are not totally wrong. The poor guy is probably too poor to buy a computer and ignorant about why he was in this situation and still believe PAP is saint. He probably has only a TV set at home, but who can you trust in the people reporting inside those box to wash human brains on daily basis?

As for me, I have rejected shaking MP hands before. I used to be volunteer in a welfare organisation who invited one of the MP. He moved around shaking the volunteer hands and I just moved away when he approached. My boss was not pleased with my behaviour but what can he do? he still needs me more than the MP who is just there like celebrity with nothing much to offer.

I have also rejected an MP who came to visit our town. He came knocking at my door and I simply do not want to open the door and greet him though his RC members kept staring at the pin hole in my door.

Though I never get to see MP most of the time, I was somewhat sarcastic to their dogs when they praised about the ministers. Many retreated and shy away when they saw me being quite critical. Do I treat PAP MP like god? No, they are faeces that I want to avoid.

On the other hand, I have briefed encounter with Chiam See Tong, his wife is very friendly and down-to-earth kind of person. I have approached the late JBJ when I was in my teenage years. He look scary too me when I was a younger boy but his smile was quite comforting and those around him were very supportive of him and they looked at me like a small boy then. Nothing threatening like what PAP would have us believed.

Even though I have had above encounterance before Singapore became a mess, I was generally neutral. However, when LHL took office and messed up Singapore and when I looked back to the past, I never regretted for not allowing PAP member into my home.

If you asked if I were to shake an MP hands in hawker center? You can easily guess the answer. I won't. I have my principle unlike 66% Singaporeans. By the way, I have shaked Chee Soon Juan's hands and that put PAP to shame. I didn't give them the honour...hahaha

Why not consider quickly dipping your hand into your underwear, scratch scratch then pull out to shake his/or hands? (Whether you consider scratching into the frontside or backside of your underwear depends on what you thinking of him/her.)

dat dishevelled looking man smiled bcos he finally got 2 make dat mp 2 touch ze inside of a dustbin wifout him knowing abt it ...

do u hv 2 choose a rude n confrontational way in telling sum1 off 2 his face? ... anyway, he wasnt rude 2 u b4, was he? ...

Run for what? If you don't like, just walk away. If you start running, bodyguards (with firearms) may panic and think that you're a terrorist running away after planting an explosive device somewhere nearby. The consequence may not be what you desire or could live to desire.

Why not just tell the MP to his face that you are unable to shake his hand because it's injured after you had smashed it through a glass door in your workplace after being told you had been retrenched because the company is hiring a cheaper FT.

Not a wise to do. You may be charged for disorderly behavior and damaging property.

Yes, I'll show my displeasure.

Bro myfoot
You should not just have moved away, you should have told the pappy that you refused to shake his hand for certain reasons. Let them know our anger.
Someone once told me that if you dislike people from a political party, instead of rejecting their handshake, you should invite them into your home so as to waste their time. I agree that's a good idea, but I can't make myself do that to such despicable people.
I have not met CST or CSJ but I met JBJ several years ago when he was selling his book at someone else's election rally. He was the typical british gentleman.

My hand would still be cleaner. :)

He just smiled and walk away later I was called up by my manager for asking such a stupid question and putting him in such a position :(

Now i know why u are using this nick.

RC dogs and MP come to my houes, I open door and look at all of them and then I say I am busy and close the door. All lan lan including MP. I have seen Ishwaran and SHanmugam and in public and I give them a fierce garang face as though I'm looking at a child rapist.:oIo:

I have seen CSJ in public when he was walking and I approach him to shake his hand and wish him luck and some pointers. :D

Election agents and other garment civil serpents oso kenna hell from me if they don't do their job properly or provide poor service.

Don't give people who delibertely hide the truth any form of decent salutation. PAPies want 6.5 million and now only 5 million. Tell all that you know that once election is over they will continue bringing hundreds of thousands of FTs.

They have also deliberately failed to bring up the truth that there are many white-collar FTs and prefer to hoodwink the people into thinking that most FTs are blue-collar, taking on jobs that Singaporeans don't want to do.

Don't trusdt people who publicly put you and your family down with crass statements and then have the audacity to come to you smiling and wanting to shake your hand.

Why dishounour yourself by touching or being close to them.:oIo:

It is common courtesy, if someone were approaching you & strecth out the hand, you respond in return, nothing to do with "I don't talk....", whatever my feelings its is..it is mine..

hay, why not we all put on a big smile and shake their hand when they come, and make them think the ground is oh so sweet, then vote for the opposition later. don't have to be so straight forward one. otherwise, they will go back and report ground not sweet, then delay election and give more goodies and you know what will happen.
