A medical study found the use of supplements reduced the risk of cancer by this much :
People who were against supplements said data in the study showed that decrease was merely 1.45% and proved their belief correct.
People who were for the supplements said data in the study showed that decrease was a whopping 30.4% and proved their belief correct.
To understand the math behind these values, see :
It's the absolute vs relative risk problem. In this study there were 5,028 men between the two groups. A total of 212 cancers developed between both groups, with 124 occurring in the placebo group and 88 in the intervention group. So, over the course of 7.5 years the placebo group had a cancer incidence of 4.94%, whereas the intervention group had an incidence of 3.49%.
The relative risk decrease of cancer was a whopping 1 - (3.49/4.94) = 30.4%
The absolute risk decrease of cancer was only 4.94-3.49 = 1.45%
Choose whichever value helps you argue whichever side you're on.
You see what you want to see. Like belief in religion or the supernatural or in extraterrestrials or in Donald Trump :
For those who choose to believe, no proof is ever necessary.
For those who choose to disbelieve, no proof is ever sufficient.
