Cops uncover further child abuse cases at 20 Selangor and Negeri Sembilan orphanages
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have revealed various forms of abuse experienced by children and teenagers rescued in a recent operation, Op Global, which targeted 20 orphanages around Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Sinar Harian that further investigations would be conducted following a viral video showing a child, believed to be a resident of one of the orphanages, being abused.
"There are many more instances of abuse that we believe are happening to these children. The police will lodge reports to commence investigations immediately," he said.
Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a child in pain while being handled roughly by an individual.
The video is believed to involve a resident of one of the orphanages targeted in the recent Op Global operation.
On Wednesday (Sept 11), it was reported that police had rescued 201 boys and 201 girls, aged between one and 17 years old, suspected of being victims of exploitation, neglect, and abuse at premises believed to be owned by GISB Sdn Bhd.
However, 10 of the 402 rescued children, comprising autistic children, disabled individuals (OKU), and sick children, have been placed under the care of the Social Welfare Department.
Razarudin reported that during the Op Global operation, which took place from 6am to 11am, the police also arrested 171 individuals, including teachers, hostel wardens, and heads of the orphanages.
In an update on Friday, he informed that 13 of the rescued children are suspected to have been sodomised based on medical screenings conducted.
