KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz may be cited for contempt of court for making a statement that Thai pathologist Dr Porntip Rojanasunan had lied in her testimony at the inquest into the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock, according to a lawyer of Teoh's family.
Gobind Singh Deo said on Monday, April 12, that citing Nazri for contempt is something his clients would consider.
"I am not going to rule out the possibility now," said Gobind. "He has made an allegation. If he does not prove it, then we have to consider taking things further. One is contempt proceedings at the inquest."
"But let's take one thing at a time. Let's give him an opportunity to respond," Gobind said. "I am interested to know, if he said one of our witnesses is lying then he should come up with proof."
Speaking to reporters at the parliament lobby, the Puchong MP, said Nazri should not jump to the conclusion that Porntip was lying without conducting an investigation.
"This is a very serious matter because we are seeing a professional from another country saying that she is pressured against attending the trial here by the Malaysian government. I think this is something the government should take seriously," Gobind said.
"The government should direct an inquiry to find out whether what she is saying is true. And if it is true, it must take the necessary steps to make sure that there is no pressure against her so that she can come for the inquest," he said.
As for the allegation that she lied at the inquest, Gobind said he is not sure if Nazri was aware that it was Porntip who discovered the marks on the neck that led to a second inquest.
"It is completely uncalled for to call her a liar insofar as the inquest is concerned. There is no basis to say that she lied at the inquest. If Nazri has proof that Porntip has lied at the inquest, then he should come forward with the proof," he said.
Gobind said that the attorney-general ought to intervene when there are any complaints or allegations made by a witness or any form of restrictions on them to come to court.
Lim Kit Siang (Ipoh Timur-DAP) said Nazri had made a serious allegation when he said Pornthip lied at the inquest and also lied about being pressured not to come to testify at the inquest. "How does Nazri know that what Porntip has said is completely baseless? Is Nazri saying that he is privy to all happenings in the government, in particular in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), that he can respond instantly without any need to call for an investigation before dismissing Porntip's explanation as a lie?" asked Lim.
Gobind said that they have established the basic facts in order to bring home the theory that Teoh's death was not suicide but homicide.
"If Porntip can testify it would be to our advantage... and she would be able to give further insight," Gobind said. "Even if she doesn't testify, we have sufficient material to push forward our case," said Govind. He said he found out that she was not going to appear at the inquest on April 20 through the press.

Dr Khunying (Lady) Porntip is the most famous Pathologist in Thailand and is very well respected in Thailand!!
Luckily now Thailand in chaos, otherwise the Thai Government will sure protesting against this allegation!!
