Explosive find at drug raid

JOHOR BARU: Police have busted a drug trafficking syndicate and seized drugs and several weapons including guns, bombs and grenades.
Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the group only started operating recently in the Johor Baru area.
“We managed to arrest three men aged between 32 and 44 years after raiding a home in Permas Jaya here recently,” he said during a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday.
DCP Mohd Mokhtar said a total of seven hand grenades, two homemade bombs, two revolvers, a loaded Walther pistol with six bullets, a crossbow and more than 450 bullets were seized.
“We also seized two fake semi-automatic air guns, two fake pistols, a pair of handcuffs and a variety of drugs valued at RM414,200,” he added.
Police are still investigating what the syndicate planned to do with the weapons and where they got it from.
“We believe they were actively supplying drugs including ecstasy, ketamin and syabu to the local market. We don't know if they were previously active in Kuala Lumpur and are still investigating if they are planning to supply drugs to Singapore as well,” he said.
He added that all the suspects tested positive for drugs and were being remanded to facilitate investigations.
“All the suspects also have previous drug-related records,” he said, adding that the case was classified under Section 7 of the Fire Arms Act 1971, Section 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
