Masked duo shoot jeweller dead during heist
ALOR SETAR: Two men wearing ski masks shot dead a gold jewellery trader at a car park near Jalan Tunku Ibrahim here. Fong Chun Seng, 49, from Air Itam in Penang, was walking to his car at 2.50pm yesterday after leaving a jewellery shop in Pekan Cina when he was shot.
Kedah CID chief Asst Comm Zakaria Ahmad said the two men had approached Fong and shot him twice, one of which hit Fong in the abdomen. Fong tried to escape on foot but fell to the ground several metres from his car. The robbers grabbed the two small bags he was carrying and fled in a waiting car.
“The bags were believed to contain jewellery,” ACP Zakaria told newsmen at the scene. Police believed the two men had followed Fong, who was on his rounds selling gold jewellery to several shops here. Anyone with information on the murder should contact the nearest police station.
