PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - Passengers on board a Malaysia Airlines flight from Chennai to Kuala Lumpur had a scare when the plane developed a technical glitch and had to be diverted to Penang.
Flight MH181 departed for KLIA at 1.55am yesterday but landed at the Penang International Airport at 8.23am after the pilot detected that the A330-200 aircraft was experiencing low cabin pressure.
On board the plane, which was carrying 195 passengers, were former minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar managing director Burhan Mohamed.
Burhan recalled the tense moments when an automated voice announced an emergency situation about 30 minutes into the journey.
"Right after that, oxygen masks were released," he said, adding that the plane descended to a lower altitude on the flight back.
