Many Singaporeans die prematurely from eating unhealthy hawker food.

Actually, hawker food is only a more suitable diet for coolies and labourers.
Coolies and labourers have to sweat under the hot sun which means they need a cheap high calories, sugar, high salt diet in order to obtain sufficient energy and salt for sweat so they will not feel faint. A high sugar drink will also enable them to immediately start work after lunch without needing a nap (no place to sleep in crowded, dirty construction site environment).
But today, most Singaporeans have a sedentary lifestyle. As a result, majority of Singaporeans have a cholesterol problem , almost half are overweight or worse and many have diabetes and hypertension as well.
Probably, LTA and HPB needs to explore the provision of Bicycle lanes on the road (which are also shared bus lanes during day time) so that more Singaporeans can exercise commuting to work and also cycle for exercise at night (and for supper).
Otherwise, more Singaporeans will become jobless after they suffer the complications of T2 diabetes mellitus (blindness, kidney failure, amputations, strokes etc) and bring down the Singapore economy at the same time as they become dependent on the government for welfare and nursing care support.
Diabetes complications:
Reference:
"As of 2010, more than half of Singapore's adult population between 18 and 69 years old have high cholesterol, four in 10 are overweight or obese, a quarter have prediabetes or diabetes and about one in five has hypertension."
