  • Total deaths have reached 10,000 and there are more than 245,600 cases
  • The coronavirus is ravaging Europe, which accounts for half of deaths
  • China accounts for a third of victims having battled COVID-19 since December
  • Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?
The coronavirus death toll has topped 10,000 worldwide, doubling in one week, as the crisis continues to escalate in Europe.
Almost half of all COVID-19 deaths have occurred in Europe, with Italy reporting devastatingly high numbers every day.
China, where the killer virus first emerged, accounts for a third of all victims, having battled the disease since December 2019.
More than 245,000 cases have been reported across the globe, soaring from 100,000 reported just two weeks ago.
More than half (164,600) are outside of China, despite it originally reporting 90 per cent of all cases in the early days of the pandemic.

No infected person dies in Singapore. That's a miracle.

Statistics totally wrong. Tiong Cock itself probably would have at least 100,000 dead.

How many people a year die from flu??

You still don't understand ratio and proportion (Sec 2 E Math). Literally tens of millions must get flu in order to produce 100,000 flu deaths.

Certainly the covid-19 cases are way under 1 million at this time, but going by the death toll, this virus strain certainly has a higher mortality rate than the seasonal flu.

People forgot to divide the death toll by the infected toll. They just count the death toll

People, yourself included, also forget that Covid-19 is such a mild disease that most don't even know they are infected so they are not subject to any testing.

It is actually the same with flu. The large numbers that are reported annually are not a result of testing they are all estimates. The figure of 0.1% is assumed and the model then works backwards to estimate the number of infections.

I've been saying this again and again and frankly I'm getting rather tired of it. Covid-19 is a mild infection in most people. I'm not saying it cannot become a serious issue but then so can flu.

I worry more about the flu because I've had it before and almost died and I was only in my early 40s. On the other hand covid-19 just gave me a sore throat and nothing else.

this ia agreed. many died in house and on the road without counting them as covid 19

Talking about dying on the road 1.4 MILLION people die in road accidents worldwide every year so franky I'm far more worried about the crazy drivers out there than I am of Covid-19 which is minor infection in the majority of people.

How do you explain what is happening in Italy?

How do you explain what is NOT happening in many other countries? Different virus?

Actually it is starting to happen in many countries. Spain. Germany. UK. France.

USA.

Only Asia seems to have handled it differently.

Countries like Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong/Macau have chosen to flatten the curve. That's why we have things under control, our healthcare system has not been overburdened, your garden variety ah soh can still go to the ER to stitch up her bleeding pussy after a night of BDSM gone wrong, and our respective policies are the best. Huat ah!
