Man who hit MP in court again
<!-- by line --> By Elena Chong, Court Correspondent
A FORMER cabby who punched MP Seng Han Thong at a meet-the-people session a few years ago is in trouble with the law again. Koo Tong Huat, 77, was charged a week ago with unlawfully having a 12cm-long knife at Subordinate Courts, Havelock Square, on May 15. In 2006, he was accused of punching the MP for Yio Chu Kang in the mouth at the People's Action Party's Yio Chu Kang branch office on July 20.
A taxi driver for more than 40 years, he had gone there to get his revoked taxi licence reinstated. The case was compounded on the first day of the trial in October that year after Koo apologised to Mr Seng. Koo, who made a second appearance in court on Monday in the latest case, will go for a pre-trial conference on June 2.
