A 40-year-old man, furious with the wayward behaviour of his teenage sister-in-law, decided to teach her a lesson by pouring hot water over her, poking her with a heated fork and whipping her with a dog chain.
The police nabbed the man at his home in Pekan Jelai in Jempol, Negri Sembilan, on Sunday after receiving a tip-off from the village headman.
The girl has been admitted to Jempol Hospital but doctors have yet to give a full account of her injuries, Harian Metro reported.
Jempol OCPD Supt Hamzah Alias said the 16-year-old dropout was living with the suspect and her sister after their father passed away. Their mother is said to be an alcoholic and has deserted them.
Supt Hamzah said the man was angry with the victim, who loved to socialise and return home late.
The case has been referred to the Social Welfare Department for investigation under the Child Act 2001.
